Syria Relief and Development Shelter

In Northern Syria, SRD provided shelter, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) as well as rehabilitation and health assistance in Aleppo where a large number of IDPs and indigenous communities have been living in makeshift homes and shelters. The project was started to provide a higher and healthier living standard in the area and to better integrate IDPs with the local population. WASH support included rehabilitating water and sewage and sanitation systems for schools and neighborhoods and providing locals with the tools needed to maintain the repaired systems. SRD also provided capacity-building and empowering workshops for local communities.

Syrian Community Network Cultural Sensitivity Training

When refugees first arrive, never having encountered American culture and lifestyle, Syrian Community Network's Cultural Sensitivity training becomes mandatory for most. In this training, SCN strives to provide a safe and open space to welcome refugee families to American society and at the same time provide them with a better idea of the norms of their new environment. The trainings give them a better idea of what they already have encountered, or what they will encounter, and give them a chance to discuss first reactions and to have questions answered.

Other training programs that SCN offers include and are not limited to the following:

  • Personal hygiene and wellness seminars
  • Skill building process and techniques
  • Job search and placement preparation and transitioning
  • On-the-job work conduct
