Washington, DC (March 8th, 2017) – On Tuesday, President Trump announced his new Executive Order on refugees and immigrants. The new Executive Order retains many of the central elements of the original order, including decreasing the number of refugees admitted to the United States each year from 110,000 to 50,000, the lowest number in 35 years. This will dramatically reduce the number of Syrian refugees who are able to resettle in the U.S.

The decision to halt resettlement would not only be detrimental to the safety and livelihoods of Syrians currently waiting to be resettled but also harmful to Syrian refugees who have already been resettled in the U.S.

Lena Arkawi, spokesperson for the American Relief Coalition for Syria, a coalition of 13 humanitarian and development organizations that aid 5.7 million Syrians worldwide, issued the following statement in response:

(Washington, DC) – Ahead of a meeting yesterday with President-elect Donald Trump, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who is reportedly under consideration to head the Department of Homeland Security, accidentally revealed a portion of his strategic plan for the department.
